Fundraising
Goals:
• To GAIN EXPOSURE as a club.
• To BUILD UP DONOR CONTACT database.
• To RAISE MONEY to help fund club activities and events.
Preliminary notes:
- Make sure not to have activity cost exceed potential revenue.
You may want to make sure you have the money ahead of time to
cover your costs before beginning the fundraising activity.
Record revenue and costs. See Treasurer's description under
Suggested Officer Positions & Descriptions under Membership.
- Try to collect contact information (have a sign up sheet), so
donors can receive thank you notes for donating to your club and
to receive update. Remember: it's key to thank donors promptly.
Car Wash
Before Event Task List:
1. Set location: find a busy location for a gas station or
service repair shops. Fast food restaurants with a large enough
parking area may also agree to have you do a car wash near their
drive thru, e.g. Taco Bell.
2. Borrow or purchase materials needed:
• Window soap
• Sponges
• Towels
• Hose/Buckets
• Paper towels
• Posters to announce car wash.
3. Contact several adults and ask if they can
help supervise event.
4. Announce event (see: Bringing a Speaker(s) under
Campus Events for more ideas on
this).
During Event Task List:
1. If you can, have some brochures or business cards for people
who may want to know more about the club.
After Event Task List:
1. Return any materials that were borrowed.
Bake Sale
Before Event Task List:
1. Contact the school cafeteria to obtain the necessary
permissions.
2. Purchase the ingredients to prepare the
baked goods or purchase the items that will be sold (make sure
to follow your school’s food handling policies).
3. Announce event (see: Bringing a
Speaker(s) under Campus Events
for more ideas on this).
Other Activities:
• Visit your local churches and ask them if they would be
willing to let you have a table outside after each service to
announce your club. Also, ask if they can let you announce your
club and/or to ask for donations before or after the service.
• Send donor letters to businesses who may be interested in
helping your cause.
• Instead of selling baked goods, sell flowers on Valentine’s
Day or Mother’s Day. If you can, try to get flowers donated by a
local flower shop.
• Purchase wholesale items at a warehouse (e.g. Costco) & sell
them for a little more. E.g. buy candy bars wholesale and sell
them for $1-2.
• See if there are any local businesses who would be interested
in donating either money or goods (e.g. pizza for an event).
• Hold a marathon, walk-a-thons, or tournaments and charge an
entrance fee.
